Southend-on-Sea City Council is calling on local performers, community and cultural groups, schools, colleges, and food and drink traders to take part in the city’s inaugural City Day celebrations on Saturday, 1 March 2025.
This landmark event will commemorate the anniversary of Southend being granted city status in 2022, transforming the High Street and seafront into a vibrant hub of entertainment, community activities, and cultural displays.
The festivities will feature:
- A main stage with live performances.
- Walkabout entertainers bringing the streets to life.
- Community stalls showcasing local talent and organisations.
City Day will also pay tribute to the late Sir David Amess MP, whose dedication was instrumental in securing city status for Southend, while celebrating the city’s rich heritage and diverse community.
Organisers are inviting local performers, cultural and faith groups, schools, colleges, businesses, and food and drink traders to participate and showcase the very best of Southend.
Councillor Matt Dent, cabinet member for culture, tourism, and business, said:
“City Day is an opportunity to celebrate Southend’s incredible community spirit and rich heritage. We’re inviting local groups and traders to be a part of this historic event and help create a day to remember. It’s all about coming together to showcase what makes our city so special.”
