I always enjoy putting together each edition of Leigh Oracle, especially when it gives me the chance to share stories about the people and places that make our area such a special place to live. This month, we have plenty to celebrate, along with some important local issues to keep an eye on.
We begin with a wonderful achievement, as children from Fairways School and St Pierre School made history in the House of Commons, speaking up for children with disabilities. What a proud moment for Leigh!
Our Green Belt Update brings encouraging news following the refusal of plans for up to 2,000 homes at Bournes Green Chase, although the campaign to protect our countryside is far from over.
We also explore Essex’s fascinating maritime past with the story of HMS Beagle’s forgotten mud dock at Paglesham, and catch up with the campaign to protect Chester, a much loved 150 year old tree.
An update from Southend Against Sewage on our local bathing waters. Seasonal gardening advice and of course Judy’s much loved recipe page.
This month’s competition gives you the chance to WIN a £100 voucher for Raynor Advanced Massage & Bodywork with specialist therapist Pam Donaldson. Find out more at pamraynoradvanced.com. To enter, simply visit oraclepublications.co.uk. Competition closes
30 November 2026.
Good luck!
