Southend Pier and Railway has officially been voted the number one icon in Essex for 2025, topping Visit Essex’s prestigious “Top 50 Icons of Essex” list.
This incredible accolade follows a public vote earlier this year, where more than 1,600 Essex residents nominated over 200 locations across the county.
Beating the Best
This recognition cements the pier’s status as a cherished local landmark and a defining symbol of Essex, surpassing other major attractions such as:
- Colchester Zoo
- RHS Hyde Hall
- Hedingham Castle
Other Southend attractions that made the list include:
- Adventure Island
- Cliffs Pavilion – currently undergoing an £8 million improvement programme
A Legacy of Recognition
This latest honour follows Southend Pier’s 2023 win of the prestigious UK National Piers Society ‘Pier of the Year’ award.
