Southend United’s unbeaten run came to an end on Tuesday night as they fell to a 3-2 defeat away at Wealdstone, despite a late surge that almost salvaged a point.

The Stones opened the scoring midway through the first half when Enzio Boldewijn pounced on a loose ball after a spilled cross. Southend levelled before the break through Slavi Spasov, whose shot squirmed under goalkeeper Dante Baptiste and into the net.
After the restart, Wealdstone struck twice in quick succession, both through Sean Adarkwa. He first converted from the penalty spot following a foul on Tshikuna, before doubling his tally just minutes later with a close-range finish set up by Daniel Nkrumah.
Southend gave themselves hope late on when Gus Scott-Morriss’ free kick proved too hot for Baptiste to handle, but despite 12 minutes of added time the visitors couldn’t find an equaliser.
The result marked the Shrimpers’ first away defeat since March and their first-ever loss at Grosvenor Vale.
