● Green Party General Election candidate for Southend West & Leigh, Tilly Hogrebe, has been selected to stand in St. Luke’s in May’s local elections, following the decision of Non-Aligned Independent Cllr Kathy Murphy not to re-stand.
● Cllr Murphy has endorsed Tilly as her successor, saying she “works tirelessly for the community” and that “St. Luke’s will be in very safe hands.”
● Tilly said she wants to give St. Luke’s a strong voice and tackle the real causes of the cost of living crisis, arguing that only the Greens are fighting for social and environmental justice so that no one is left behind.
The Green Party’s General Election candidate for Southend West & Leigh, Tilly Hogrebe, has been selected to stand for the Greens in St. Luke’s in May’s local elections.
Tilly is hoping to follow in the footsteps of Non-Aligned Independent Councillor Kathy Murphy, who sits with the Green & Progressive Independents Group on the City Council and has decided not to re-stand this year.
Cllr Murphy said, “I’m very pleased to endorse Tilly as my successor. She is a fantastic person with exactly the right attitude and works tirelessly for the community. St. Luke’s will be in very safe hands with Tilly.”
Tilly said, “Only the Greens are truly fighting for social and environmental justice. The huge inequalities in our society cannot go on. We need to be honest that this cost of living crisis is not because of migration, but because of decades of poor political decisions. It is time to shake things up and give St. Luke’s a strong voice, so that no one is left behind.”
The Greens have seen their support grow rapidly over the past few years, and Tilly’s announcement completes a full slate of 17 Green candidates standing across Southend in this year’s elections.
