Southend-on-Sea City Council is launching its new recycling and waste service next week in partnership with SUEZ. The service is designed to make recycling easier, keep streets cleaner, and support a greener Southend.
Residents with wheelie bins can begin filling them after their final kerbside collection this week (20 October), ready for their first collection under the new service from 27 October.
Whether you are switching to wheelie bins, or staying on sacks, some households will have new collection days, so it’s important to check your updated schedule. You can do this in one of two easy ways:
- Download the Southend Waste App for instant updates and reminders.
- Check the printed calendar which was delivered with your wheelie bins.
If you have any questions about the new service, please check the Council’s Waste FAQs, which are updated regularly to keep residents informed.
Cllr Lydia Hyde, cabinet member for climate, environment and waste, said:
“We want the start of the new recycling and waste service to be as smooth and straightforward as possible for everyone.
“With approximately 60,000 properties switching to wheelie bins we know it will take some getting used to for both our residents and the crews. This is why we are trying to put out as much information as possible and we welcome residents’ support as we deliver this change together.”
