Parking charges are always a hot topic in the city, and as an administration, we have listened to public feedback and proposed several positive changes to the system. These include capping all-day costs, reducing charges in the central seafront area, lowering evening charges, and introducing a reduced winter tariff.
Key Changes:
✅ Evening parking charges capped at £5 between 6pm and 9pm (down from the current £9).
✅ New winter tariff introduced for November to January in the central seafront area.
✅ Reduction in some charges in Zone 1A (central seafront), while other zones are adjusted in line with inflation since their introduction in 2021.
✅ All-day parking charges capped:
- Zone 1A (seafront): £20 (£5 reduction)
- Zone 1B: £17 (£8 reduction)
- All other zones: £10
✅ Southend Pass cost frozen at £12.50 per month or £125 per year.
We aim to make parking more efficient and as affordable as possible for both local residents and visitors, while considering the financial challenges the city faces. After consultations with key businesses from the seafront and High Street, we believe these changes will make parking fairer and offer more choice.
Southend Pass – Outstanding Value for Money
We are also freezing the cost of the Southend Pass, which continues to provide exceptional value across the city. For as little as 34p per day, you can enjoy up to 13 hours of parking – an incredible deal!
Tradesperson’s Permit – Convenient Parking for Professionals
For tradespeople who need to park in various locations across Southend as part of their work, the Tradesperson’s Permit is an excellent option.
🔹 Cost: £60 per month or £600 annually
🔹 Benefits: Allows parking in resident-only zones, on-street bays, and council car parks
🔹 Ideal for: Electricians, plumbers, builders, and other mobile trades
This permit makes it easier and more convenient for tradespeople to park and get to work efficiently.
