Saveourgreenbelt.org, a community campaign dedicated to preserving the Green Belt in Southend and Rochford, welcomes the Southend-on-Sea City Council’s swift action to improve access to the ePetition “Protect Our Green Belt – Stop the Secret 10,000-Home Development in Southend & Rochford.” These changes ensure residents can easily voice their opposition to the proposed 10,000-home development north of Bournes Green Chase.
Following concerns from residents about difficulties signing into the council’s ePetition platform, including issues with trying to use MySouthend credentials and password expiration, the council has removed the login requirement. Residents can now sign the petition by providing only their name and address, making the process quick and accessible. To further support community participation, the petition deadline has been extended to May 31, 2025.
This epetition, now the second-largest in Southend’s history, reflects the overwhelming community commitment to protecting our Green Belt. “The council’s decision to simplify the petition process and extend the deadline is a victory for resident engagement,” said Conservative Councillor James Moyies, West Shoebury Ward. “It ensures everyone has the opportunity to stand up for our precious green spaces, which are vital for our environment and community well-being.”

Reform leader, Cllr Tony Cox said, “Residents want to have an opportunity to express their alarm at an extra 100,000 people being squeezed into this corner of Essex, it will completely transform the nature of our City for the worse.
