NHS Essex is advising people to use the most appropriate service for their needs during resident doctor’s industrial action in order to help minimise disruption.
Resident doctors working across hospital services and some GP services are scheduled to strike for four consecutive days. They will walk out at 7am on Monday 15 June until 7am on Friday 19 June 2026.
NHS services including urgent and emergency services may be under more pressure during industrial action and waiting times may be longer than usual.
Some routine and pre-planned appointments may need to be postponed as the NHS prioritises patients with more urgent needs. Those affected by these changes are being contacted directly. If people haven’t been contacted to rearrange their appointments, they should attend these as normal.
People can continue to seek help from NHS 111 or from their local pharmacy and potentially avoid an unnecessary visit to hospital or GP practice.
NHS 111 can provide advice and guidance on the best care option for urgent situations. For routine care and minor illnesses, local pharmacies can provide expert advice, treatment, and support.
In the event of a life or limb-threatening emergency, people should contact the emergency services as normal.
