Happy New Year! I hope you and your families had a restful and enjoyable Christmas break.
One thing comes up time and time again is our identity. Southend has always been a place with a strong sense of who we are. But in recent years, that identity has grown even more confident and distinctive. Our cultural and visitor economy is thriving powered by independent venues like the newly opened Twelve Bar, and local events such as the Lazy Days Festival which bring some of the UK’s biggest artists right to our doorstep. These incredible creatives and their hard work help put our city firmly on the map. Alongside this, our growing digital and creative sectors show what Southend does best by embracing local talent, innovation, and new ideas.
Our identity is also shaped by the opportunities that lie ahead. Southend Airport is one of our key assets, offering not only travel and connectivity but the potential for job creation and business growth. As discussions about the airport’s future continue, it’s clear that many see Southend as a place where ambition and innovation can truly flourish.
A Seafront Driving Growth
The seafront, one of the city’s greatest treasures which continues to attract businesses in hospitality, leisure, and culture. Alongside this, regeneration projects such as the Pride in Shoeburyness programme, are helping to breathe new life into our high streets and neighbourhoods.
Southend has so much to be proud of, and so much to look forward to. Over the coming year, I’ll continue championing opportunities that support our local economy, protect our environment and create pathways for people close to home. I’ll keep meeting with businesses, developers, and community groups to ensure local voices remain central in shaping Southend’s future.
