The Old Southendian Association (OSA) is one of the oldest and largest alumni associations in this country today. With nearly 4000 members and being over 100 years old, the OSA is open to all past students and members of staff of Southend High School for Boys and maintains a close relationship with the school supporting it both financially and practically.
From a member’s perspective the OSA arranges various social events and reunions, providing platforms to catch up with old friends. Each September the London Dinner attracts members from far and wide to a venue of the current President’s choice and the Annual Reunion Dinner in November now regularly attract over 200 members and is always a fantastic opportunity to see old friends, with attendees ranging from 18 to 85 years old, all with one thing in common.
We also run affiliated organisations and clubs for Football, Cricket, Hockey, Golf and Bowls as well as the highly regarded Organ Society.
In recent years there has also been a growth in the careers network available via the OSA’s social media presence. Ex-students can delve into the wealth of knowledge and experience of our members for careers advice in almost every profession imaginable. This is invaluable for those trying to enter the highly competitive jobs market/
We are also proud of the increase in the number of girls that are joining annually having left the 6th form. The increase has been steady over the last 10 years, and we are delighted to have gained over 40 girls joining in the past school year.
To sum up, the Association actively contributes to the school’s development through financial support, sponsoring awards, and enhancing facilities and by becoming a member, you can not only maintain and grow old friendships, but you can play a role in shaping the future of the school and inspiring current students.
