HARP, Southend’s homelessness charity, is proud to present Art from the Heart, a compelling exhibition showcasing the creativity and resilience of individuals rebuilding their lives after experiencing homelessness.
The exhibition will be hosted at Beecroft Gallery, Victoria Avenue, Southend-on-Sea, from 8th March until 1st June.
This powerful collection features artwork created by residents and service users of HARP, reflecting their unique perspectives and experiences.
“It shows that we are not just one word, we are not just ‘homeless’, we’ve still got feelings, we’re still people,” said HARP resident Rebecca Williamson.
“At HARP, we support around 1,000 people each year who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness,” said HARP Recovery Coordinator Tricia North. “Through our recovery programme, we provide opportunities for people to develop skills, improve wellbeing, and regain stability and self-esteem – offering activities such as health and wellbeing sessions, sports, employment support, education, and creative arts.”
“Creative expression through art can play a crucial role in personal recovery when everything else seems too difficult and chaotic. For many, engaging in art has been an important part of their journey toward a more stable and hopeful future,” says Tricia.
Art from the Heart is a platform for storytelling, perseverance, and hope. HARP invites the Southend public to come and see the exhibition and stand in solidarity with those on their journey out of homelessness.
