The Vulcan Restoration Trust is excited to invite the public to an extraordinary opportunity to get up close and personal with the iconic Avro Vulcan XL426 bomber at our final Visit the Vulcan Day of the year. Taking place in its Southend Airport hangar, this special event promises a day filled with aviation history, military exhibits, and family-friendly fun for all ages.
Explore the Avro Vulcan XL426
Visitors will have the unique chance to walk around the legendary Vulcan, a key part of British aviation history. For an additional fee, they can also step inside the aircraft for a guided tour of the cockpit, offering a rare glimpse of the inner workings of this formidable machine.
Alongside the Vulcan, there will be displays of weapons it carried during its service with the Royal Air Force, including examples of the 1,000 lb high explosive bombs used during the 1982 Falklands Conflict.
Military Vehicles and Aircraft Displays
The day doesn’t end there! Visitors can explore a wide array of military vehicles, from Land Rovers to British Army tanks and armoured carriers. Aviation enthusiasts will also enjoy seeing the Westland Scout helicopter and the cockpit of an ex-RAF Jaguar ground attack aircraft.
Living History Groups
Keeping the military history theme alive, reenactors from the 10th Essex Living History Group, Norfolk Great War Living History Group, and Hertfordshire Home Guard Living History Group will bring history to life throughout the day. Additionally, the Shoeburyness & South Essex Royal Artillery Association will be showcasing a fascinating display of artillery equipment.
Classic Vehicles and Live Entertainment
For those with a passion for classic vehicles, historic fire engines will be on show, along with a selection of radio-controlled models presented by the Southend Radio Control Model Flying Club. To top off the day, enjoy live music from the Essex Yeomanry Band, keeping the atmosphere lively and entertaining.
