Southend’s famous Halloween Parade isn’t just a spectacle to watch—it’s a chance for you to be part of the magic. Every year, the seafront transforms into a glowing carnival of ghouls, ghosts, and glittering lights. But the parade wouldn’t be complete without the energy, creativity, and community spirit of our local residents, businesses, and performers.
This year, organisers are calling on everyone to get involved—absolutely free of charge. Whether you’re a business ready to show off your brand on a decorated float, a dance troupe eager to strut your spooky stuff, or a group of friends who love to entertain, the invitation is wide open. The only rules? Be illuminated, be in costume, and bring your very best Halloween energy.

Here’s what you need to know before you sign up:
- Light up the night: The parade takes place after dark, so make sure your group, costume, or float is fully illuminated. Glow sticks, fairy lights, LEDs—be as creative as you like.
- Family-friendly costumes: Spooky is encouraged, but keep it suitable for little witches and wizards in the crowd. Only those in costume will be allowed to join.
- Entertain and interact: The Southend Halloween Parade is all about a carnival atmosphere—wave, dance, sing, or perform as you move along the seafront.
- Be weather-ready: The seafront can be breezy. Ensure costumes and floats can handle gusts of wind or a little drizzle.
Children under seven aren’t permitted for safety reasons, and all under-16s must be accompanied by an adult. If your group includes vulnerable participants, you’ll need at least one DBS-checked member.
🚗 Vehicle Entries Welcome
Floats and vehicles are a highlight of the parade, but they must meet safety requirements:
- Vehicles must be under 20ft in length and able to pass beneath Southend Pier (16ft).
- Safety rails, secured cables, and fire extinguishers are essential.
- No jumping on or off moving vehicles, and nothing may be thrown into the crowd.
Full terms and conditions are on the official page, but the spirit is simple—create something safe, bright, and unforgettable.
