Leigh Road Baptist Church Tennis Club recently marked its 75th anniversary with a celebratory cream tea event, highlighting the club’s rich history and bright future. During the festivities, a commemorative cake was cut by the club’s oldest and youngest members, 89-year-old Paul Lewis and 13-year-old Amelia Higgs, symbolizing the club’s intergenerational community spirit.
Located alongside Victory Path in Chalkwell, the club is currently thriving, having recently installed floodlights on two of its three hard courts to extend playtime. Leigh Road Baptist Church Tennis Club welcomes players of all ages and abilities, offering weekly coaching sessions for young people aged 5 to 15.
Club Chairman Simon Joyce expressed his joy over the occasion, stating, “It was a very enjoyable afternoon as we reminisced about the past and celebrated the club’s formation 75 years ago. We look forward to the continued success of the club.”
The club’s commitment to fostering a love for tennis among people of all ages has been a cornerstone of its success, and it looks forward to many more years of community engagement and sporting excellence.
