We are launching our Picture This campaign.
We’re inviting local people to share their story through the power of photography. Whether you live, work, learn, or simply enjoy time in the Project Southchurch area, this is your chance to help celebrate the urban fabric and the people who make the community what it is.
What We’re Looking For
Take photos in and around the Project Southchurch area, which includes:
- The whole of Southchurch Ward
- East of Kursaal
- South of St Lukes
- West of Thorpe Wards
We’re especially interested in street photography – photos of people, everyday moments, local life, and scenes that capture the essence of this unique part of Southend.
How to Take Part
Send your photographs to:
events.projectsouthchurch@gmail.com
Along with your photo, please include a short description of:
- How the photo makes you feel
- Why it matters to you
Every image helps build a visual story of our area — what it means to those who experience it every day.
Deadline for Submissions
30 August is the closing date for all entries.
What Happens Next?
We’ll be selecting a number of submitted images and displaying them with their stories on 25th September at Southend Christian Fellowship, located at the site of Southchurch’s old cinema.
The images will be projected onto a screen in the same position as the original cinema screen, creating a stunning visual tapestry of community through time.
We will also share as many submissions as possible across our social media channels.
Positive Postcards – Making Memories
To run alongside Picture This, we’re also bringing back our Positive Postcards initiative — last seen when local businesses reopened after lockdown.
Here’s how it works:
- We’ll select five standout images from the submissions
- Each image will become part of our Making Memories postcard series
- We’ll produce 100 postcards of each image, featuring the connected story on the reverse
- All profits from postcard sales will be donated to the Alzheimer’s Society
This is a great opportunity to not only share your story, but also make a meaningful contribution to a worthy cause.
Share your story. Celebrate your community. Capture what matters.
