Aviation enthusiasts and families alike are in for a treat at the upcoming “Visit the Vulcan Classic Jets Day,” featuring the legendary Avro Vulcan XL426. This unique event offers visitors the rare opportunity to see this iconic Royal Air Force bomber up close in its hangar, with an exclusive chance to explore the cockpit of this historic aircraft.
Event Highlights:
- Vulcan Cockpit Tours: Guests can climb inside the cockpit for a guided tour, learning about the aircraft’s operation and its pivotal role during its RAF service. The Vulcan’s flying control surfaces and bomb doors will be demonstrated during the day.
- Weapons Display: See examples of the weapons carried by the Vulcan, including the 1,000 lb high explosive bomb used during the 1982 Falklands Conflict.
- Flypast by Lancaster: A special flypast by the Lancaster of the RAF’s Battle of Britain Memorial Flight is scheduled just after 1:30 pm (subject to weather and aircraft availability).
- Additional Aircraft: Explore the cockpits of other classic British jets like the Blackburn Buccaneer, Hawker Hunter, Auster, and BAC Jet Provost.
- Military Vehicles & Fire Engines: View historic military vehicles, tanks, and fire engines from the Rochford Fire Service, including models from the 1970s and 1980s.
- RC Flying Display: Enjoy a display of scale radio-controlled models from the Southend RC Flying Club.
