This a message to all residents across Southend, Rochford and Wakering.
Does the following sound familiar?
- No doctors appointments available for
- 2 weeks or more
- No NHS dentists available for new patients
- Long hospital waits for appointments or A&E
- Roads flooding as the sewer system overloads during high tide or when raining
- Constant traffic jams on the A13 and A127
- Potholes, blocked drains, broken pavements, overgrown verges
- Affordable housing targets reduced once planning permission given
And now, both Rochford and Southend Councils are supporting the build of a further 10,000 new homes to the Green Belt land between Southend and Rochford.
They have written to the New Towns Taskforce set up by government to show their expression of interest for this additional saturation. There are no guarantees of any infrastructure improvements or additions, from the council, the developer or government.
Southend Faces Wider Strain
Thorpe Bay Residents Association was born to give Thorpe residents a voice without political bias. We love our community and our green spaces. But this is not only a Thorpe issue, this will impact everyone using the roads, transport system, doctors, hospital and utilities across Southend, Rochford and Wakering.
As residents we need to stand together and say No, this is too much. We can do this together. Every action no matter how small helps.
How can you help?
Everyone of us have to raise our voices and we can do so by writing to the New Towns Taskforce, our MPs and our local councils.
I am providing a link to our website which details the email addresses, and a draft letter that you can use to do so. It’s a simple copy and paste.
But it is time to act now. We cannot wait for the planning approval process. If the New Towns Taskforce approves this overdevelopment, it will be too late. The councils will have to give planning permission or it will be given on appeal.
Reach out to your local residents associations, community groups, neighbours, councillors and spread the word.
