On the Plot
Plant out tender crops like peppers, courgettes, and tomatoes. Feed pumpkins and courgettes with liquid fertiliser, and use tomato feed for tomatoes and strawberries. Sow more beetroot, pak choi, radishes, and lettuce. Plant late-flowering broccoli and sweetcorn in blocks of nine for good pollination. Once early potatoes flower, you can start lifting them. Keep an eye out for aphids and spray regularly.
In the Garden
Now’s the time to finish summer bedding with lobelia, petunias, and marigolds. Sow cosmos, sunflowers, and zinnias directly outdoors. Shade the greenhouse with netting or whitewash. Plant out cannas and lily bulbs, feed your containers and hanging baskets, and plant autumn anemones. Support tall perennials, deadhead roses (don’t miss our 3 for £25 offer!), and deter slugs with a trusted slug repellent.
By the Pond
Thin out aquatic plants and pop barley straw into the pond and filter to help prevent algae. We also have a wide selection of fish food in stock.
About the House
Move conservatory plants outside for the summer months. Watch out for pesky bugs on houseplants – they thrive in the heat.

“If you see ants on your fruit trees, it could mean aphids are present – take action.”
