Basildon Council has confirmed that garden waste collections will pause over Christmas, starting Thursday 25 December 2025 and running through to Friday 16 January 2026.
Regular garden waste bin collections will restart on Monday 19 January 2026.

If you subscribe to the garden waste service, remember that your current subscription ends on 31 March 2026. You’ll need to renew for the 2026/27 season to ensure your brown bin continues to be collected. Residents can find renewal details on the Basildon Council website by searching “Basildon Garden Waste”.

This break happens every year and helps crews manage the increased demand on rubbish and recycling collections during the busy Christmas period.

Food Waste Liners – Christmas Delivery Update

Basildon Council will deliver the annual supply of food caddy liners before Christmas, along with the standard blue and white recycling bags. These liners help households continue recycling food waste throughout the winter months.

If you run out, you can:

• line your food caddy with newspaper, or
• buy extra liners from The Basildon Centre, local libraries, or major supermarkets.

Basildon residents have recycled an impressive 5,630 tonnes of food waste between January and the end of September 2025, helping to cut landfill use and boost the borough’s recycling rates.
