HARP24: Running to End Homelessness
Over the weekend, more than 360 runners participated in HARP24, a 24-hour endurance race hosted by HARP, Southend’s homeless charity.
Event Highlights
Entering its 11th year, the event was kicked off by the Mayor of Southend on Saturday morning. During the 24-hour period, a mix of solo and team runners completed an impressive 1803 laps on the continuous 5-mile course around Cherry Orchard Country Park.
Impressive Milestones
Runners collectively covered 9015 miles, equivalent to the distance from Westcliff Rugby Club to Los Angeles, California. So far, the event has raised over £20,000, with donations still being received, supporting HARP’s mission to combat homelessness in Southend.
Fundraising and Community Support
Agata Elliott, HARP’s Director of Fundraising, stated:
“It is always amazing to see runners and volunteers come together every year to make HARP24 a success. The positivity and energy from participants over the 24-hour challenge is inspiring. This is the most runners the event has ever had, and we’re looking forward to welcoming runners back next year. A particular thanks to everyone who took part and to the local companies that have supported the event, including IPECO, Westcliff Rugby Club, Mark One Hire, and S. Stibbards & Sons.”
Inclusive Event
HARP24 welcomes runners of all abilities, from ultra-marathoners to casual participants. This year also featured HARP2.4, a junior run for participants under 18.
