Southend-on-Sea City Council proudly announces that its Family Centres have been awarded the prestigious Level 3 accreditation by the Baby Friendly Initiative, a program by UNICEF UK.
The Baby Friendly Initiative is a global program led by the World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF, aimed at promoting and supporting breastfeeding, improving infant feeding, and enhancing the standards of care for all mothers and babies.
Achieving Level 3 accreditation is a testament to the dedication and hard work of the staff at Southend-on-Sea City Council’s Family Centres, the Public Health Team, and A Better Start Southend. This marks the first time the Family Centres have achieved this respected recognition, highlighting their commitment to providing exceptional support and care for mothers and babies.
The accreditation report stated:
“The service has met all of the criteria relating to Baby Friendly accreditation, and the staff are commended for the efforts made. It was clear to the assessment team that information and support for pregnant women and new mothers is of a very high standard.”
Cllr Laurie Burton, Cabinet Member for Children, Young People, and SEND, expressed delight:
“We are thrilled to receive the Baby Friendly Initiative Level 3 accreditation. This achievement highlights our commitment to supporting families and ensuring that every mother and baby receives the best possible care while visiting our centres and using our services.”
