Southend United struck twice in stoppage time to seal a dramatic 2–0 win over Brackley Town at Roots Hall. The result extended their impressive unbeaten run and showcased the team’s resilience in breaking down a stubborn visiting side.
The opening 45 minutes saw Southend dominate possession but struggle to find a way through a compact Brackley defence. Andy Dallas was a constant threat, seeing one close-range header drift wide, while Sam Austin forced the visiting keeper into a sharp save from distance. Despite their attacking intent, the sides went in level at the break.
After the restart, Southend continued to press, but Brackley’s defensive organisation held firm. The visitors were content to sit deep and counter when possible, keeping the home crowd on edge as time ticked away. Manager Kevin Maher responded by introducing fresh legs, bringing on Leon Chambers-Parillon, Josh Walker and Jack Bridge to add pace and energy in the final third.
The substitutions proved inspired. In the fifth minute of stoppage time, Ben Goodliffe’s persistence created a half-chance that fell to Chambers-Parillon, who drove a low right-footed effort beyond the Brackley keeper to spark wild celebrations around Roots Hall.
As Brackley pushed forward in desperation, Southend struck again to put the result beyond doubt. Josh Walker surged down the right and squared for Andy Dallas, who calmly slotted home from close range in the eighth minute of added time to seal a remarkable finish.
The Shrimpers’ patience, determination, and never-say-die attitude earned them a valuable three points that will further boost their confidence as the season gathers pace.
