Southend United put on a commanding display at Roots Hall to secure a well-deserved 3–0 victory over Aldershot Town, earning an important three points in front of their home supporters.
A first-half strike from Andrew Dallas set the tone before second-half headers from Slavi Spasov and Nathan Ralph sealed the win, lifting the Shrimpers up to eighth in the National League table—level on points with York City in the play-off positions.
Kevin Maher made just one change to the side that drew with Boreham Wood in midweek, with Josh Walker coming into the starting eleven for Tom Hopper.
Confident First Half
Southend looked sharp from the opening whistle and were unlucky not to take the lead early on when Andrew Dallas had the ball in the net, only to be ruled offside. Harry Boyes continued to cause problems down the left, testing the Aldershot defence with several dangerous deliveries.
The pressure finally told after 17 minutes. Boyes’ cross was helped on by Keenan Appiah-Forson, and when Marcus Dewhurst failed to hold the effort, Dallas reacted quickest to bundle the ball over the line for his sixth goal of the campaign.
Dallas remained lively, forcing Dewhurst into further saves, while at the other end, Collin Andeng Ndi produced a vital stop to deny Josh Barrett’s swirling corner from sneaking in at the near post.
Second-Half Control
After the break, Southend continued to dictate play. Boyes’ set pieces were a constant threat, and from one of his teasing deliveries, the Shrimpers doubled their advantage on 74 minutes. His deep cross picked out substitute Slavi Spasov, who rose highest at the back post to head home from close range.
The hosts weren’t finished there. With just two minutes of normal time remaining, Oli Coker’s corner found Nathan Ralph, whose well-placed header crept into the top corner despite Dewhurst getting a hand to it.

Southend saw out the final minutes comfortably, their defensive organisation ensuring a clean sheet to accompany a fine attacking performance.

The victory gives Southend a confidence boost ahead of their FA Cup Fourth Qualifying Round tie, as they welcome Folkestone Invicta to Roots Hall on Saturday, 11th October.
