This is one of those satisfying Indonesian curries that can be made quickly and served as a midweek meal or with friends. Hake is a thick white fish similar to cod or haddock. It’s made in one pot so not too much washing up. Enjoy!
This is just a twist on an old favourite and you can add flavours to the mince, little onion, Chipotle paste, harissa, garlic, cumin, coriander or paprika. Nice as part of a big BBQ, Enjoy!
A very quick salad to put together as either a main course, side or part of a buffet. No cooking required, you can make the dressing and leave in the fridge ready to toss everything together. Perfect on a summer’s day. Enjoy!
This is a tear-and-share type recipe, where you just make one large round and divide it roughly into 8. Using buttermilk gives the scones a wonderful lightness, and needless to say, you could top them with butter, or for a special occasion, some lemon curd and clotted cream. Enjoy!
Chocolate and lime is an old-fashioned flavour combination but works well. I rarely make the candied peel but usually for a special occasion. You can replace the lime with orange if you prefer. A good cake for Easter if you have family or friends coming.

A very quick supper dish that can be ready in about 15 minutes. A lighter version of a favourite Friday night takeaway. I’ve used Prawns but you can easily use chicken strips and just cook for a few minutes longer. Enjoy!
Lots of us love carrot cake so this pudding is much the same but with parsnips in this sticky toffee pudding. They are wonderfully sweet and work really well with the caramel sauce. It’s a light moist pudding so give it a go. Enjoy!
This is a lovely warming winter soup and has become one of my favourites. The recipe was printed in The Oracle ten years ago but I feel anyone who missed it should give it a try! Chunky and rustic, it is packed with flavour and you could also make it with leftover chicken or turkey. Lovely big piece of crusty bread is all you need on a cold January day. Enjoy!
This just a really easy supper and you can make it your own by adding chunks of red onion and some thyme or rosemary in the mix. Make sure the pan is not too deep or the Yorkshire will be a bit soggy. Enjoy!
