The South East Essex Green Party will host the Essex premiere of London-based filmmaker Pablo Behrens’s latest documentary, London’s Last Wilderness, on Tuesday 24 June from 7.30pm at The Boatyard in Leigh-on-Sea.
The film from Burning Films Ltd explores the extraordinary landscapes and wildlife of the Greater Thames Estuary, revealing one of Britain’s most remarkable and overlooked natural environments. The special screening will also feature talks from guest speakers, including director Pablo Behrens himself.
Green Party Councillor for Leigh Ward, Richard Longstaff, said:
“It’s an absolute pleasure to bring the Essex premiere of London’s Last Wilderness to Leigh-on-Sea. The Greater Thames Estuary is one of our area’s greatest natural treasures, yet so much of its beauty and ecological importance remains underappreciated.
“This film captures the estuary in a truly unique way and reminds us why these landscapes deserve to be celebrated and protected. We’re delighted to welcome Pablo to Leigh and hope the evening inspires people to see our local environment through fresh eyes.”
Pablo Behrens said:
“It’s great to be able to present my piece right next to the Estuary itself. Every shot in the film was captured using truthful documentary techniques – no retakes, no setups. What you see happened once, and only once.
“To be honest with this place, you have to film it all: across four seasons, in all weather conditions and under every tidal level. Nothing could be skipped. Nothing faked.
“The biggest challenge was exploring every creek, mudflat and edge of the estuary. It took time. Not everything made it into the film – some shots were incredibly hard to get, but didn’t make the final cut.”
